Temperature Control Business

Crown was founded by two brothers Carl and Allen Dicke in 1945, in an old hardware store in New Bremen, Ohio. The company's goal was to manufacture temperature control devices for coal stoves. In 1945, James Dicke Carl's grandson joined the company.

Another New Market

In 1951, Crown began manufacturing and repairing mechanical and electronic components for private industry and government operations. Shortly thereafter, the company's status in this sector strengthened until, in 1957, Crown started producing forklifts. The company took a decisive turn, believing there was a demand for small high-quality forklifts in the material handling industry. Export Sector

In 1966, approximately 9 years after introducing the first material handling equipment line, Crown expanded its business beyond the United States. The chosen location for this expansion was Australia, aiming to broaden the customer base for the company. With its regional headquarters in Sydney, Australia would become the leader in sales, service, and marketing for Crown in the Asia-Pacific region eventually. Two years after establishing its business in Australia, Crown entered the materials handling market in Europe. This began with the acquisition of a manufacturing plant located in Ireland, aimed at producing Crown's pallet trucks. In 1968, the company opened a new sales and service branch in London, near Heathrow Airport. The late 1960s to early 1970s marked a period of continuous growth for Crown in Europe.
